Forty boats participated in the Snipe National Championship in Sandusky, Ohio June 27-July 1st! With dedication, competence, and serious midwestern hospitality, the regatta organizers and the Sandusky Sailing Club hosted an excellent event.

Sandusky provided some great sailing over the five days of racing; conditions ranged from 15+ knots to much lighter breeze. No matter the velocity, sailors and race committee battled some unpredictable shifts, keeping the racing interesting. Even with these varying conditions, the race committee pulled off 8 good races. Sandusky even showed its skyline off once the smoke from the wildfires cleared midweek. Storms held off until the last day of racing, when race organizers made the decision to cancel and avoid storms and a lack of wind.

Over the course of the regatta, Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis were in contention with Ernesto Rodriguez and Christine di Silva for a first-place finish. In the end, Rodriguez and di Silva narrowly beat Callahan and Davis, who finished in second. Augie Diaz and Sophia Devling finished closely behind, finishing third.

Of the 40 boat fleet racing at this year’s Snipe National Championship in Sandusky, Ohio, over 10 sailors were from Annapolis Fleet 532! Thank you so much to the Sandusky Sailing Club and Snipe Fleet National Secretary, Evan Hoffman for a fantastic event. We hope to see many of them for the remaining events this summer, including the Women’s Snipe National Championship in August.

Thank you for the fine article. Much appreciated. Glad to see the local attendance number. You are licking butt as our fearless leader. Maybe we should send you over to the Ukraine if we want results! 😂
