For the 2021 Snipe Nationals we can expect almost any weather conditions, but here are some generalizations about what we might see.
The whole Annapolis Fleet – over 20 individual folks – has been meeting since January to make sure the 2021 Nationals is as good as the pandemic allows us to be! Dinners will be a la carte, but there will be Happy Hours nightly on the SSA deck for competitors to enjoy.
It was a little Frigid and breeze never got out of single Digits at the 2020 Snipe Frigid Digit, but in the world of COVID, it was a fun, crystal clear fall weekend with a great turnout of new and old Snipe sailors alike! Twenty-eight teams competed for the 2020 Atlantic Coast Champion title that was awarded to the winner of the Frigid Digit. Snipe rock stars Ernesto Rodriguez/Kathleen Tocke (Miami) had to work hard in light and variable conditions to beat up-and-coming “Next Gen” Snipe sailors Tyler Mowry/Izzy Fadullon (Annapolis/SSA) in 2nd and Charlie Miller/Lindsey Kloc (Salem MA) in 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 were Noah Zittrer/Watt Duffy (Texas) and Carol Cronin/Kim Couranz (Newport/SSA). Noah Zittrer was also given a special prize for best “First Snipe Regatta” sailor.
It was a wild, windy, shifty day at the 2020 Hospice Cup! With 20 kts sustained outside, the RC sailed 14 Snipes (and 12 Harbor 20s) in Carr's Cove in the Severn River which made it much less windy (8-15kt) but crazy shifty. Congrats to Tyler Mowry/Izzy Fadullon for squeaking out a win over Christian… Continue reading Tyler Mowry/Izzy Fadullon win Wild, Windy Hospice Cup
For the first time, the Snipe Class has been invited to participate in the Annapolis Hospice Cup! This is a one-day regatta for only $20 (if you register by 9/4!) with 3-5 W/L races set off Bembe Beach. This event has LOTS of moving pieces, all to support the important work that Hospice Cup is doing, particularly during this pandemic.
2020 Frigid Digit chosen as ACC's! Thanks to the hard work of SSA and the compliance of Marylanders to keep our COVID rates low, the Annapolis Snipe Fleet is happy to announce that we will be hosting our annual Frigid Digit on Oct 3-4, 2020. Because we are one of the few venues able to host regattas in the Midatlantic Region, the Frigid Digit has been chosen as the temporary home of the Atlantic Coast Championships (we look forward to going back to Surf City next year!).
What do you get when you cross a fantastic group of women sailors, a fun & talented set of coaches/RC, ace on-the-water media, and 8-12 knots of breeze? A kick-ass inaugural Chesapeake Women's Snipe Challenge! Congrats to Sarah Alexander/Mariah Leffingwell on a hard fought win over Katherine & Jessica Bennett in a tie-breaker.
