June 11-14, 2026, Severn Sailing Association, Annapolis, MD
Day 1: It may be light, but the Snipe fleet is all smiles
Despite an unstable forecast, 52 teams hit the line today for the start of the 2026 Snipe Nationals at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, MD
From local juniors to seasoned West Coast veterans, competitors battled light and shifty conditions throughout the day. Races were abandoned as the breeze struggled to settle, leaving just one race on the scoreboard. Taking the win were Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis, two seasoned Snipe sailors chasing their second national title this week.
The final race of the day was abandoned after the wind completely shut down, but the action didn’t end on the water. After making a stop at the bevvie boat on the sail home, competitors gathered ashore for a debrief with Carter Cameron of Quantum Sails. The fleet’s top sailors fielded questions from the crowd and shared insights on everything from tuning setups to key tactical decisions.
That’s one of the things that makes this fleet so special: the racing is fierce on the water, but the camaraderie shines ashore. No matter where you sit on the leaderboard, everyone is invested in helping each other learn, improve, and enjoy the week Three races are scheduled for tomorrow with a first race

Day 2: Dialed in for day two
Today’s forecast was a marked improvement over yesterday, with race committee able to complete all three scheduled races. The breeze started at 5–10 knots from the south before clocking right as storms approached the area midway through the day.
Yesterday’s leaders, Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis, remain atop the fleet after coming out swinging with a win in the day’s opening race. Junior team Owen Fretwell and Colin Krebs answered back with a victory in race two. The California duo have burst onto the Snipe scene this season and are headed to the Snipe Junior Worlds this fall—proof that the Snipe is anything but an old man’s boat
This fleet has the range: there are currently two junior teams, three masters teams, and two U30 team in the top 10 And in Annapolis, the junior Snipe sailing scene is having a come up – A local foundation has purchased recently purchased four Snipes for the Annapolis Yacht Club junior sailors to use as cross training, allowing them to get competitive experience against some of the best in the country and get out of the “typical” youth boats
As always, the day wrapped up with a Quantum Sails debrief led by Carter Camron. Carter welcomed Fretwell and Shawn Harvey – 2022 ICSA College Sailor of the Year and another newer face in the class who has found success this week – to share their highlights, challenges, and key takeaways from the regatta so far. The pair fielded questions from fellow competitors and offered their insights.
Now that the sailing is done: it’s time to play some Leis and flip cup!

Day 3: Light, lumpy, and left was the name of the game on day three of the Snipe Nationals here in Annapolis
Never ones to back down from a questionable forecast, race committee headed out for an on-time start and successfully completed all three scheduled races.
Heavy thunderstorms and rainfall over the past few days made current a major factor, leading to some bold layline calls and plenty of opportunities to gain – or lose – big. Charleston native (and fleet Quantum Sails expert) Carter Cameron put his heavy-current experience to good use. Alongside crew Madeleine McGrath, Cameron posted the most consistent scores of the day with a 2-3-2 finish, an impressive feat in a fleet this talented.
Despite the challenging conditions, the top three remain unchanged heading into the final day. Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis continue to lead the fleet and remain the only team without a double-digit finish. Ernesto Rodriguez and Andrea Riefkohl sit second, looking to erase a five-point deficit and capture their first national title in three years. Rounding out the podium positions are San Diego juniors Owen Fretwell and Colin Krebs, who hold third and are locked in a tight battle with Arthur Blodgett and Grace Howie just behind them.
After racing, competitors gathered to hear the fleet leaders share their light-air secrets before enjoying hand-fired pizzas and Dark ’n Stormys. Because no matter how tough the day on the water, there’s nothing better than a cold drink, good stories, and great company. This fleet is more than a group of competitors – it’s a family
With two races scheduled for tomorrow, the championship is still very much up for grabs. Will the U30 leaders hold on? Can the veterans mount a comeback? Or will the junior team make a run at its first national title? Stay tuned

Final Day: Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis are the 2026 Snipe National Champions!
After four days of challenging conditions, close competition, and classic Snipe camaraderie, Justin Callahan and Trevor Davis clinched the title with a race to spare, winning their second Snipe National Championship.
It was close coming into the final day, with Callahan and Davis only five points ahead of second place Ernesto Rodriguez and Andrea Riefkohl. Taking advantage of the glamour conditions – 12-15 knots from the south, Annapolis’ seabreeze direction – Callahan and Davis attacked the day, winning both races to take the title.
Justin Callahan & Trevor Davis – 22 points
Ernesto Rodriguez & Andrea Riefkohl – 35 points (top Master)
Owen Fretwell & Colin Krebs – 41 points (top junior)
Arthur Blodgett & Grace Howie – 55 points
Augie Diaz & Ciara Rodriguez-Horan – 62 points
Top Female team: Grace Crespin & Eleanora Lawrence
Top married team (yeah, we have a trophy for this!): David Tillson & Barbie Tillson
This podium showed the breadth of the Snipe class – we had a U30 team (The Snipe class’s designation for those who have aged out of juniors, but are still early in their Snipe journey), a Masters team (Skipper 45+, combined age 80+), and a Junior team (under 22) in the top three. Age is but a number with us!
