Tyler Mowry/Izzy Fadullon win Wild, Windy Hospice Cup

It was a wild, windy, shifty day at the 2020 Hospice Cup! With 20 kts sustained outside, the RC sailed 14 Snipes (and 12 Harbor 20s) in Carr’s Cove in the Severn River which made it much less windy (8-15kt) but crazy shifty. Congrats to Tyler Mowry/Izzy Fadullon for squeaking out a win over Christian Filter/Lydia McPherson. Gavin & Holly O’Hare took 3rd, with Carter Cameron/Mitch Powell and Josh Paper/Jessica Bennett filling out the top 5.

On short W/L courses, the racing was super tight around all marks, with crazy wind shifts constantly mixing up the results. It was fun to see a great turnout of U30s and a return of womens teams who had sailed the Women’s Challenge. Also great to see the return of Robert Ramirez and Martin Hermida to the Class after a several year hiatus, traveling down from NYC to join us.

Thanks to the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake and the Hospice Cup organizers for including Snipes for the first time this year. RC for our course, Drew Mutch and Michael Ann Ashford, did a great job with COVID-restricted resources, running 5 races, and providing Dogfish Head beers to competitors on the course before the last race! The on time start caught a few competitors off guard, particularly those in borrowed boats, but favored those who got out on time! We hope to make this regatta a standard on the local Snipe schedule!
