Spring Sailing is here!

As much of the fleet is sailing the final Winter Circuit Regatta (the DonQ) this weekend, it is time to start thinking about starting the Snipe sailing season here at home! The schedule in brief is on our website on the Schedule tab: snipefleetannapolis.com/schedule

Recap of the 2024 Winter Circuit: There were 6 total regattas (2 new) on the Florida circuit this year, so many of us are starting to think of Miami as our second home! Our fleet had entries in (and/or helped with) the Orange Bowl, the Junior Snipe Worlds, the Comodoro Rasco, the Key Largo Midwinters, the Bacardi Cup, and the DonQ. The events were all super fun and the addition of the Bacardi was a bonus for those of us who (as a Bermudian saying goes) “may not be here for a long time, but we are here for a good time!” Put as many of these events on your radar for next year. They are worth the effort!

Spring Schedule Rundown:

May and June will be super busy! Here is the rundown:

  • April 30 First TESOD: 6pm to sunset
  • May 11 Shake out the Cobwebs Clinic: This will be a more informal clinic than we would like due to the Soling North Americans having priority for the weekend. We will gather at 10am (hopefully after the Solings launch) and come in by 2-3 (before Solings return). Brady Stagg will be coaching us and taking video that we will review the following Saturday after Spring Series Racing. PLEASE rsvp to Lisa or Brady to let us know if you are attending (lisa@teampline.org/ bradygstagg@gmail.com).
  • May 18-19 Spring Series/EWE Fundraiser: Club events are FREE to SSA members and count towards our 2024 Fleet Champion calculations. Non-members are welcome to join us for $50. Register now at https://club.severnsailing.org/event/2535. In a new twist, the SSA Fleets have been invited to participate in the EWE Spirit Cup sponsored by Sailing Club of the Chesapeake. We sail our normal SSA racing, but if we form a fundraising team (more info to come) we will be invited to participate in the social activities around the event. The kick-off is April 16th at Forward Brewing 5:30-7pm. For more info, check out https://www.ewespirit.org/ewe-spirit-cup.
  • June 1-2 Colonial Cup: The premier Invitational at SSA will be awesome as ever, headed by Tri-Chairs Arthur Blodgett, Darby Capellin, and Nikki Bruno! We expect over 30 boats with travelers from around the country and Canada. Registration is open, so please register as soon as you can! bit.ly/3TzxTbh As always, if you need help with a boat, skipper, or crew, let us know. Also, if you can provide Housing for teams, let us know. We often get requests!
  • June 8-9 Surf City Invite: This is the best (only!) beach regatta on the schedule. Housing is free, the beach is a block away, the breeze is always solid, and the vibe at Lee’s Beach House can’t be beat. Don’t miss it this year!
  • June 25-29 US Nationals (Beverly, Mass): We are lucky to have the US Nationals in our District again this year. Jubilee YC does a great job running Snipe events! The venue just North of Boston is quintessential New England and a beautiful place to sail. Check out the website: https://theclubspot.com/regatta/PWKe9S8MWW

As always, let us know how we can get you on the water. Want a crew/skipper? Need a crew/skipper? Let us know. Want to charter a boat or just try one out? Let us know as well! Contact Fleet Captain Lisa Pline at lisa@teampline.org.
