[as published in the eSSAy] New Snipes for Christmas! Santa delivered 2 new (or new-to-them) boats for fleet members! Brad & Marissa Milliken bought Bryan Fishback’s boat and spent some of the holiday getting her rigged up. This is the boat that Sarah Alexander leased last year. Sarah’s Santa delivered a brand new DB to Florida where she and Hollis have been spending time practicing with the Miami Mafia (or are we calling it Diaz Sailing Academy?).
Women’s Snipe Sailing Schedule / Women’s Nationals: The Snipe Class in general and our fleet in particular have seen great energy coming from women sailors. In our fleet alone, we have 6 Snipes owned/operated by women skippers and over half of our fleet membership is of the fairer sex. To keep this energy going, Fleet 532 has secured hosting of the US Women’s Nationals August 6-7 at SSA. We will have charter boats available, so we hope to get a lot of new women into the boat! The Miami Fleet is also supporting Women’s sailing by hosting 2 Women’s events during the Winter Circuit (March 26-27 and April 23). Looking Forward: We have at least 8 teams headed south for the Winter. First up is the Miami Snipe Invite U30 event over New Year’s Eve weekend, followed by the Comodore Rasco the last weekend in January. Next up is the Ron Payne in Ft. Lauderdale April 3 and the DonQ Rum Regatta April 8-10. We are also putting together a great schedule at SSA – more to come!
