May Snipe Fleet Update

[as published in the May eSSAy] Annapolis Snipe Sailors Rock at DonQ!  Fleet 532 had a great showing at the last of the Florida Regattas showing great form both on and off the water!  7 epic races over 3 days at the 56th Annual Don Q, some in the biggest breezes many of us have seen in a while, as well as big shifts made for conditions that challenged even the many champions in the fleet.  Fleet 532 was well represented on the water with 11 boats on the line and Top Honors to Sarah Alexander/ Hollis Barth (Top Women’s Team, 8th Place, winners of the windiest race of the regatta) and Evan Hoffman / Shira Golub (Top U30 team, 3rd Place).  Miami Snipes really upped the game this year with fantastic hospitality including DonQ Rum daiquiris and apps after racing Day 1 and the Thursday Welcome party and a full Cuban dinner on Saturday.  If you missed it this year, start thinking about next year!  The South Florida sailors already have dates for Rasco (early January), DonQ (late March) as well as a NEW Key Largo Midwinters (February) and perhaps a 3-day Ron Payne that would be a Worlds Qualifier.

May 7-8 Clinic-gatta for SSA Spring Series:  The Annapolis Snipe Fleet will once again be conducting our Spring SSA Club race opener “clinic-gatta” style with Carter Cameron providing personal coaching on the water to get all of us up to speed.  Debrief/video review will be conducted both days after racing. This is a great way to shake off the cobwebs and get ready for the Colonial Cup in June!  The clinic will cost $25 (this is on top of any regatta fee a non-member may have to pay.  SSA members race Club events for free.)  Sign up now on the SSA website.

TESOD starts April 26th!  If you plan to race any TESOD, it is free to all, but registration is required!  Please sign up by clicking any TESOD on the racing calendar and registering.

Women’s Snipe Nationals Planning Underway:   Fleet 532 has secured hosting of the US Women’s Nationals August 6-7 at SSA. The Dynamic Duo of Devon & Lauren Feuhsahrens are co-chairs, so we know it will be EPIC!  A great team met to start the planning last month and the ideas generated were super fun, including a half day clinic, luau’s, blenders, boat boys, “postponement paddleboard” races, to name a few!  We will have charter boats available, so we hope to get a lot of new women into the boat!  For more info this and other great Snipe Women’s events, check out snipewomen.com.

Colonial Cup & Beyond!  Looking forward, May is a tune up for the first big Invitational of the year, the Colonial Cup June 4-5, chaired this year by Nikki Bruno, which has also just been added as a Western Hemispheres Qualifier.  The June Circuit will be fun as we go from Colonial Cup to Surf City the following weekend (June 11-12), then on to Quassapaug (Snipe Camp!) the last weekend in June (25-26).

Welcome New Snipers to the Fleet!  Welcome to Cole Amaral to the Snipe Fleet!  Cole joined SSA as a Junior Associate last fall, but has now procured a Snipe he will be keeping on the lot so that he can train for the 2022 Snipe Junior Worlds in Portugal.  We are also excited that Mark Hillman, former SSA member, has bought an almost-new JibeTech from Andy Pimental and plans to sail with us for some events with Marley, who sailed Snipes with us when they were a Junior.

New Lease To Own Snipe Available!  We have acquired Snipe 30195 – this is a great boat (JibeTech) and we are hoping to find another great LTO candidate.  If you or anyone you know interested in this great program, have them give us a shout!

Join us!  We have boats to loan, charter, and lease-to-own, so contact us if you’d like to join the fun!
