[as published in the June eSSAy with Spring Series updated] Best quote from a new Fleet Member: “I have to say, this is about the most active fleet we’ve been involved in!” Indeed, between the May Spring Series and Clinic, TESODs, and a great June Circuit schedule, there are certainly plenty of opportunities for “Serious Sailing, Serious Fun” coming up.
Epic June Circuit on tap!
- Colonial Cup June 4-5: The June Circuit starts with the annual Colonial Cup, run this year by Nikki Bruno. We expect about 25-30 boats with some hot competition as it is a qualifier for the 2023 Westerns. There is also boat speed clinic Friday afternoon sponsored by Quantum. Interested in joining us? Contact Nikki at pnicolebruno@gmail.com. Registration/NOR is online at bit.ly/colonialcup22.
- ACCs/Surf City June 11-12: Great regatta with housing a block from the beach on scenic Long Beach Island, NJ. Registration/NOR is online at https://theclubspot.com/regatta/KOl8QtZ41X
- Boston A/B Regatta June 18-19: This is a new regatta being run by the rejuvenated fleet at Cottage Park YC. This will be run “college-style” with each boat coming with 2 teams that will rotate. Teams can be matched if you need a partner. We are excited to support this new concept! Register online: https://forms.gle/y5Fxj3p3iaZGq1j29
- ACCs/Surf City June 11-12: The month wraps up in Connecticut at what is fondly referred to as “Snipe Camp” (clearly the Serious Fun is the emphasis of this regatta!). No online registration required, but if you plan to attend, please contact Joel at joel.zackin871@gmail.com
SSA Junior Associate Snipers training for Junior Worlds in Portugal: The Annapolis Fleet is so proud to have two Junior Team, Trevor Davis/Rees Tisdale and Cole Amaral/Sean Trudell, who have qualified and are training hard to represent Team USA, CBYRA, SSA, and the AYC Foundation in the best possible manor. They have an aggressive training schedule including a packed regatta schedule and even coaching sessions with Augie Diaz leading up the event in Portugal this August. We hope to have a fundraising event for them soon, but in the meantime, if you’d like to donate to help them defray expenses, the fleet has set up a donation site for them: bit.ly/sponsorsnipejuniors.
Rescheduled May Clinic-gatta and SSA Spring Series: The horrendous weather that beset the East Coast the first weekend in May forced a cancellation/reschedule of the event and splitting of the event, moving the Spring Series with the ILCA’s on May 21-22 and the Clinic on May 29th. The Clinic will be a great tune up for the June Circuit!
For the Spring Series, we were pleased to have 7 boats sail over the 2 days of the SSA Spring Series event. “Pleasant” breezes (5-8kt) enabled 7 races to be sailed. Not only did we have the two teams from our fleet training for the Junior Worlds out (Trevor Davis/Rees Tisdale and Cole Amaral who had Izzy Fadullon subbing for his Worlds crew), but it was also fun to see two new-to-Snipes folks out (John Meiser & crew and Billy Martin sailing with Bryan Stout). Congrats to Bradley Adam/Nikki Bruno on a “picket fence” win followed by Trevor/Rees in solid second and Cole/Izzy in third. TESOD or BESAD! Once the weather finally started cooperating, we have had a nice turnout averaging 5 Snipes out for TESOD’s. We expect that number to grow as summer kicks in! TESOD’s are a great way to try out a Snipe and/or train in some new crew. If you are interested in going out on a Tuesday night, contact Fleet Captain Lisa Pline at lisa@teampline.org
Women’s Snipe Nationals Planning Underway: Fleet 532 has secured hosting of the US Women’s Nationals August 6-7 at SSA. The Dynamic Duo of Devon & Lauren Feuhsahrens are co-chairs, so we know it will be EPIC! A great team met to start the planning last month and the ideas generated were super fun, including a half day clinic, luau’s, blenders, boat boys, “postponement paddleboard” races, to name a few! We will have charter boats available, so we hope to get a lot of new women into the boat! For more info this and other great Snipe Women’s events, check out snipewomen.com.
New Lease To Own Snipe Available! We have acquired Snipe 30195 – this is a great boat (JibeTech) and we are hoping to find another great LTO candidate. If you or anyone you know interested in this great program, have them give us a shout!
Join us! We have boats to loan, charter, and lease-to-own, so contact us if you’d like to join the fun!
