Women’s Snipe Nationals A Huge Success: Kudos to the Dynamic Duo of Devon & Lauren Feusahrens who ran a superb National event that brought lots of positive publicity to SSA and the Snipe Class! The SSA RC led by Barbara Vosbury and Mark Bennett with a whole team of rock stars ran first class racing in truly epic windy, wavy southerly conditions. The 21-boat fleet was topped by our own Marissa Milliken crewing for her former USNA teammate Mary Baker. The “Serious Fun” shoreside was also epic with blender parties, disco luau, and raffles. If you didn’t catch the front page Sports section news in The Capital, you can also check out the regatta report in The Breeze (www.severnsailing.org/breeze)
Oxford One-Design Regatta: After a two-year hiatus, the Snipe Fleet returned to the Annual Oxford One-Design Regatta to enjoy Eastern Shore sailing at its finest. Gavin & Holly O’Hare supported the fleet with their Alban, hosting after racing Happy Hours on Friday and Saturday. The fleet also walked to Capsize both nights for fun meals. The weather was atypically cool, making both the sailing and the Harleigh Manor Awards party even better! Congrats to Gavin & Holly O’Hare for the win, followed by Alex & Lisa Pline in second, winning in a tie-breaker over new Snipe owners Bob & Stephanie Adam.
SSA Fall Series: Bradley Adam/Nikki Bruno topped the 10-boat fleet in our last club race event of the season, only beating second place finishers Trevor Davis/Helene English by one point. Bryan Stout had a great regatta taking third with mom Lorie on Saturday and junior sailor Lizzie Chicocetti on Sunday. On Sunday we welcomed Preston Anderson and Sara Makaretz who are both new to the area from Boston (although they did not know each other previously!). They both are interested in joining SSA! The fleet was super appreciative of the great RC work by the SSA volunteers to get 6 races in quickly and fairly with some iffy weather conditions. The more this fleet travels, the more we appreciate the great RC provided by SSA!
Looking Forward: There are two travel and two local events still on the books for this season. Quassy (Aug 27-28) and NA’s in Toronto (Sept 9-11) will be attended by a few of our fleet and we are hoping to have a good local turnout for EYC’s Hospice Cup (Sept 17), and Frigid Digit/Districts (Oct 1-2).
