Oct eSSAy Snipe Fleet Update

(Published Oct 1, 2022 in the eSSAy plus some added photos)

2022 North Americans:   A great group from Fleet 532 travelled (again!) to the Snipe NA’s Sept 9-11 in Toronto, hosted by Etobicoke Yacht Club, and brought home some hardware!  Evan Hoffmann/Shira Golub took 3rd, with Sarah Alexander/Nikki Bruno and Alex & Lisa Pline close on his heels in a tie one point behind him.  Sarah & Nikki also secured the Top Women’s Team, made even sweeter with a win in the last race!  Eric Reinke/Alex Damley-Strnad were also in the Top 10 with an 8th.  The three day regatta held lots of opportunities for socializing as well with great restaurants nearby and a very inviting club.

Hospice Cup:  Six Snipes participated in the Hospice Cup Sept 17th.  Gavin & Holly O’Hare won the 5-race, short-course regatta, followed closely by Alex & Lisa Pline.  The Hospice Cup organizers ran a great event – big shout out to our course PRO Drew Mutch and his right-hand Michael-Anne who banged off races super quick and even tossed beverages to competitors for the sail in!  The party after at Horn Point Marina was also super fun.

New Members:  This month, the Snipe Fleet welcomes to SSA Preston Anderson, fresh from college sailing at Bowdoin.  He joined as a Student >21 while he is in grad school at Georgetown.  Preston has already been out with us a few times, and we hope to get a Snipe of his own underneath him soon!  Also awaiting a brand new Snipe is Greg Virgin, who joined SSA in August.  Greg will sail his first regatta with us in October.  Welcome to both!

Looking Forward:  The final event before packing up the boats for winter is the Frigid Digit Oct 1-2.  We have a group of about 12 of us who are arranging the Snipes to fly south for the Winter Circuit.  There are 5 events being hosted by the South Florida for some great escapes during the winter months.

Join us!  We have boats to loan, charter, and lease-to-own, so contact us if you’d like to join the fun!
